Fleetwood High School

MP praises students and staff as “some kind of normality” returns to school life.

Cat Smith MP has praised Fleetwood High School’s community in her first visit to the school since Covid restrictions were further eased on schools.

The visit, that took place on 10 September, saw Cat visit lessons and sit down for a discussion with staff and students to discuss the impact of the pandemic and how the school had supported students with the challenges that it had posed.

Cat said: “It’s fantastic to see schools starting to return to some kind of normality after the disruption of the last two years.

“I very much enjoyed meeting teaching staff and pupils at Fleetwood High School, and as always was impressed by the leadership and its focus on creating a school community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and learn.

“The team of talented, experienced and dedicated teaching staff are an inspiration – as are the young people they are teaching and guiding.”

Fleetwood High School received significant praise for their role in supporting the community over the last 18 months. Not only did staff produce 100s of items of PPE for the NHS on the school’s 3D printers, but students also volunteered at the local food bank and the online education provided was also given the thumbs up by parents.

Richard Barnes, Headteacher, added: “The visit was so positive for two reasons.

“Not only was it great to hear so many positive comments from our MP, which really filled our school with pride, but it was also fantastic for us to be able to open our doors to Cat – albeit in a very safe and managed way. It is the first time in quite a while that we have been able to run tours.”

The school is once again open to the community in the first “in person” tours since 2019 for prospective families who are looking for a secondary school for their child. Families are invited to contact the school office to arrange a visit.

Mr Barnes added: “We can’t wait to welcome parents to our school. One of the things I am most proud of is that our school hasn’t just “kept things going” during the pandemic – we have continued to evolve and adopt lots of new initiatives that will help our students to thrive.”
