EXTRA CURRICULAR
The Performing Arts department offers a vibrant and exciting programme of extra-curricular opportunities, enabling students to develop their skills, confidence and creativity both on and off the stage.
Throughout the academic year, students can participate in a wide range of performances and showcases, including:• Winter Performing Arts Showcase
• Christmas Concert Assemblies
• Spring Performing Arts Showcase
• The Big Gig
• Summer Concert Assemblies
These events provide valuable opportunities for students to perform in front of audiences, celebrate their achievements and gain experience across music, dance and drama.
Educational Visits and Enrichment
Students regularly attend theatre visits and live performances, helping to inspire and enrich their learning. GCSE Drama students, in particular, benefit from seeing professional productions in performance. A highlight of the year is our annual West End theatre trip, where students enjoy a world-class stage production alongside a visit to the Harry Potter Studio Tour.
Performance Opportunities Beyond School
Students are encouraged to represent the school at a variety of prestigious events and venues, including:
• Wyre & Fylde Dance Festival at the Blackpool Winter Gardens
• Wyre & Fylde Celebration of Music at the Blackpool Winter Gardens
• Year 7 and 8 Carol Service at St Peter’s Church
• Wyre & Fylde Dance Competition at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom
• End of Year Performing Arts Showcase at Blackpool Sixth Form College
Music, Ensembles and Technical Theatre
The school choir rehearses regularly and students can join a variety of musical ensembles, including ukulele groups and rock bands. These groups
provide opportunities for students of all abilities to perform, collaborate and develop their musical talents.
For students interested in music technology and the wider music industry, the department offers access to extensive recording and sound equipment, including a dedicated suite of Mac Minis for sequencing and recording projects.
Specialist peripatetic tutors provide individual and small-group lessons across a range of instruments and disciplines, including:
• Woodwind
• Guitar
• Ukulele
• Bass Guitar
• Piano and Keyboard
• Vocals
Students can also become part of our dedicated Crew Team, gaining hands-on experience in stage management, sound, lighting and technical theatre production.
Dance and Drama
A variety of dance and drama clubs, workshops and performance opportunities are available throughout the year. Students can participate in school productions, showcases and elective activities, developing their performance skills both individually and as part of an ensemble. These experiences help students build confidence, teamwork and creativity while fostering a lifelong appreciation of the performing arts. ↑ - Drama and Performing Arts Skills and Content Age Related Expectations 2025 download_for_offline
